Essential Oils and Their Benefits

Updated: Jul 15, 2019

Essential oils have been used for thousands of years for their cosmetic, medicinal, spiritual and many other benefits. They have been mentioned in many historical texts, which indicates their high value during ancient times.

Mood Enhancement

You can use essential oils to improve your emotional state in different ways. For example, lavender, ylang-ylang, rose, bergamot, and lime oils trigger emotions and memories, which can bring joy, peace, tranquility and balance into your being.

Medicinal Purposes

There is an essential oil for many health problems, some are antiseptic, others are anti-inflammatory, while others relieve pain. A few examples are eucalyptus oil for respiratory problems, tea tree for acne, peppermint for digestive problems, and cannabis oil for reducing tremors.

Spiritual Benefits

When Breathed in or ingested, essential oils are useful for spiritual purposes. They help the user to transcend trivial issues and to connect to higher vibrations. For example, cypress, frankincense, rosemary, helichrysum, Palo Santo, sandalwood and spikenard, have been used for a long time by those striving for enlightenment.

Personal Care

Because commercially produced chemical products can harm your health, use essential oils diluted in coconut oil, or olive for cleansing, toning and moisturising the skin. If you have acne, use tea tree oil or frankincense oil which are anti-septic. For mature skin, use lavender and carrot oils which help to regenerate the skin cells, and also clear sun spots and scars. Myrrh’s anti-inflammatory properties help to improve skin tone, firmness, and skin elasticity, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in ageing skin.

Perfume

Unknown to many users, most perfumes include harmful chemicals, which can cause problems after long term use. Did you know you could make your own perfumes by using a combination of essential oils?

Cleaning

Cleaning products contain harmful chemicals that we absorb through the skin and inhaled. Imagine the harm done to babies playing on the floor! Use essential oils and other natural products to clean your house and your clothes. You can add a few drops of lavender or citrus oil to a small damp cloth; put it in the clothes drier to make your clothes smell nice. Add a few drops of pine and some white vinegar water when you clean the floor. You too can enjoy the many benefits of essential oils. But take care because these oils are powerful and can burn the skin when concentrated. Research and follow directions for dilution.
