Is Junk Food Just As Bad As Smoking?

Updated: Jul 16, 2019

In my eyes junk food can be just as bad as smoking and alcohol, it can be addictive and nothing about it is good. Most junk foods are highly processed and contain large amounts of carbohydrates, added sugar, unhealthy fats, and salt. Junk food has little to no nutritional value and it can be hard for our body to know how to break down the ingredients.

If it’s a known fact that junk food is not good for us, so why is it that more junk food is being added to our shelves or are popping up in the form of fast food shops? It’s so easily available for us and cheap too when you compare it to buying a healthier option. Our mind is even programmed in to buying it by the abundance of advertisement, which is forced in our faces through all the media outlets.

What people don’t realise is junk food is currently one of the main underlaying factors of health problems. When you are eating a lot of junk food overtime you are starving your body from getting the nutrients it needs.

Here is a list of health problems that stem from over eating junk food:

  • Obesity

  • Unhealthy fat around the organs

  • Type 2 diabetes

  • Blood level fluctuations

  • Depression

  • Weakness & fatigue (low energy)

  • Digestive problems

  • Skin problems

  • Increases your risk of getting cancer

  • Increases your risk of getting heart disease

  • Can damage your liver and kidneys

Top Tips

  • If you eat it, eat it in moderation

  • If you don’t understand the ingredients don’t eat it

  • Try to avoid fried foods

  • Eat Organic when you can

  • Eat more plants and less of the stuff made in plantations
