It is important to stretch so that we get good movement in our fascia which is located directly under the skin. Without stretching we begin to lose our flexibility and our joint range, which can leave us feeling tight.

I personally like to stretch first thing in the morning because it helps me with my movement. When I do my morning stretches I feel nice and refreshed and ready to tackle my day.

When we are young we are a lot more flexible and then over time it decreases but you can slow down the process and increase your range in motion if you keep up with your stretches. It still amazes me how flexible babies and toddlers are, I always say if you want to know how to do the perfect squat just watch a toddler do it.

If you have a pet dog pay attention to when they get up in the mornings or after laying down for a long time. The first thing they do when they get up is a big stretch.

Tips

  • The main focus points to stretch are calves, thighs, hips, lower back, neck and shoulders.

  • Don’t over stretch, you should never feel pain when stretching.

  • Stretch both sides equally.

  • Hold the stretch for 30 seconds.

  • Make it a regular thing because if you stop your improved range may decrease again.

  • Enjoy it, it’s benefiting your body so don’t look at it as a chore.
